New Zealand Road Rules

When driving in New Zealand you must drive according the New Zealand Road Rules as found in the official Road Code. This is the driving rule book-the guide to New Zealand’s traffic law and safe driving practices. You can read an online version of the New Zealand Road Code.

A great website with driving tips can be found at DriveSafe.  Take time to read up the New Zealand Road Rules before your trip starts. One thing to always remember is to drive on the LEFT side of the road. You may want to make a note and attach it to the dashboard of your car.  A note can useful for helping you remember, especially at roundabouts!

New Zealand WOF and Vehicle Registration

The New Zealand vehicle Warrant of Fitness (WOF) is a certificate of motor vehicle safety and roadworthiness. For older vehicles this regular inspection must be carried out every six months and usually costs around $50 at a testing station or garage. You must keep your vehicle in warrantable condition at all times. Vehicles first registered on or after 1 January 2000 usually only need a WOF check every 12-months. When you purchase a campervan from Kiwi Road Trips it will have a WOF but you are responsible to ensure you keep a valid WOF while you own the vehicle.

Vehicle Registration refers to the process of vehicle details being added to the New Zealand Motor Vehicle Register. A valid registration is obtained by paying a vehicle licensing fee which is issued for either a 3-month, 6-month or 12-month period. When you purchase a campervan from Kiwi Road Trips it will have a valid registration but you are responsible to ensure you keep the campervan registered while you own the vehicle.  A 3-month registration costs around $70.
